No Fines, No Registration Holds, No Downtime

If you’re running heavy-duty trucks in California with a GVWR over 14,000 pounds and a 2013 or newer engine, you already know CARB isn’t messing around anymore. Roadside monitoring devices are scanning plates. The DMV is blocking registrations. And if you get flagged, you’ve got 30 days to submit a passing test or face penalties that start at $10,000 per vehicle.

You don’t have time to drive across town to a testing facility and sit around waiting. You need someone who shows up where your trucks are, runs the test, submits the results to CARB, and gets you back to work. That’s what we do.

Our mobile Clean Truck Check service handles CARB HD I/M testing on-site in Beverly Hills and surrounding areas. You schedule a time that works. We come to you. Your trucks get tested, your compliance gets handled, and your operation keeps running without the usual headaches.

We're CARB Credentialed and Based Right Here

All SMOG Motors is a CARB-credentialed testing facility serving Beverly Hills and the greater Los Angeles area. That credential matters because only authorized testers can submit official results to California’s Clean Truck Check system.

We understand the commercial vehicle landscape here. Beverly Hills has high-end logistics operations, construction fleets, and independent owner-operators who can’t afford to be sidelined by compliance issues. We’ve built our service around that reality: mobile testing, same-day appointments when you need them, and straightforward guidance through CARB’s regulations.

You’re not getting a generic smog shop trying to figure out heavy-duty compliance. You’re working with people who do this specific testing every day and know exactly what CARB requires for your 2013 or newer trucks.

Heavy-Duty Vehicle Compliance Process CA

Here's What Happens When You Book Testing

You call or book online and tell us where your trucks are located in Beverly Hills. We schedule a time that doesn’t interrupt your operations.

We show up with CARB-approved OBD testing equipment. For trucks with 2013 and newer model year engines, we’re plugging into your onboard diagnostics system to check emissions performance. The test itself doesn’t take long, but it has to be done right because CARB’s system tracks everything.

Once testing is complete, we submit the results directly to CARB’s Clean Truck Check database. You get documentation showing your vehicle is compliant. If you’re running multiple trucks, we can test your whole fleet in one visit and handle all the paperwork.

If a vehicle doesn’t pass, we’ll tell you exactly what’s flagged and what needs to happen next. Most issues relate to emissions system tampering or malfunctioning components. You’ll know where you stand before we leave.

About All Smog Motors

CARB Truck Regulations Beverly Hills

What You're Actually Required to Do

California’s Clean Truck Check program applies to diesel, alternative fuel, and hybrid heavy-duty vehicles with a GVWR over 14,000 pounds and model year 2013 or newer engines. If that describes your trucks, you’re required to submit passing emissions compliance tests twice per year starting in 2025. That frequency increases to four times per year in 2027.

You also have to pay an annual compliance fee to CARB, which is $31.18 per vehicle for 2025. Registration, fee payment, and test submission all have to happen through CARB’s system. Miss any of those steps and the DMV puts a hold on your registration.

Here’s what catches people off guard: CARB is actively monitoring compliance using roadside emissions devices and automated license plate readers. If your truck gets flagged, you receive a Notice to Submit to Testing. You have 30 days from that notice to get a passing test submitted. There’s no grace period and no extensions.

In Beverly Hills, where logistics and construction operations run tight schedules, that 30-day window can sneak up fast. Our mobile service exists specifically to help you meet those deadlines without pulling trucks off jobs or losing revenue days.

Does my semi truck need a Clean Truck Check test in California?

Your semi truck needs Clean Truck Check testing if it has a gross vehicle weight rating over 14,000 pounds and the engine is model year 2013 or newer. This applies whether you’re running diesel, alternative fuel, or hybrid powertrains.

Older trucks with pre-2013 engines aren’t part of this program. Lighter trucks under 14,001 pounds GVWR also don’t qualify. But if your truck meets both the weight and model year criteria, CARB requires you to register in their system, pay the annual compliance fee, and submit passing emissions tests twice per year starting in 2025.

Out-of-state trucks operating in California fall under these same rules. If you’re bringing trucks into Beverly Hills or anywhere else in the state for work, you need to be compliant or you risk penalties and registration issues.

If you miss your testing deadline, the California DMV places a registration hold on your vehicle. That means you can’t renew your registration until you submit a passing test and get back into compliance. You’re also looking at potential fines that can reach $10,000 per vehicle per day for operating a non-compliant truck.

CARB has been using roadside emissions monitoring since January 2023. If your truck gets scanned and flagged for non-compliance, you’ll receive a Notice to Submit to Testing. You have exactly 30 calendar days from that notice to get tested and submit passing results. There’s no wiggle room on that timeline.

Beyond the financial penalties, non-compliant vehicles can be denied entry into California ports and railyards. If your operation depends on access to those facilities, a compliance issue can shut you down fast. The risk isn’t worth it when mobile testing can come to you in Beverly Hills and handle everything in under an hour.

Testing costs vary depending on whether you come to a facility or use mobile service. In-house testing at shops typically runs around $50 to $75 per vehicle. Mobile testing, where we come to your location in Beverly Hills, generally costs more because of the convenience factor and travel time involved.

You’ll also need to pay CARB’s annual compliance fee, which is $31.18 per vehicle for 2025. That fee goes directly to the state and covers your registration in the Clean Truck Check system.

If you’re running a fleet, ask about volume pricing. Testing multiple trucks in one visit usually brings the per-unit cost down. The real value of mobile service isn’t just convenience, it’s avoiding the revenue loss from taking trucks off jobs and driving them to a testing facility. When you factor in downtime and fuel costs, mobile testing often pays for itself.

Yes, same-day testing is available depending on our schedule and your location in Beverly Hills. If you’ve received a Notice to Submit to Testing from CARB and you’re up against the 30-day deadline, let us know when you call. We prioritize urgent compliance situations.

Most testing appointments can be scheduled within a few days. The actual test doesn’t take long once we’re on-site with your truck. The majority of the time goes to scheduling, travel, and paperwork submission to CARB.

If you’re managing a fleet and need multiple trucks tested quickly, give us as much advance notice as possible. We can often block out time to handle several vehicles in one visit, which keeps your entire operation compliant without stretching testing out over multiple days.

If your truck fails, we’ll tell you exactly what triggered the failure. Most failures relate to emissions system tampering, malfunctioning diesel particulate filters, or issues with selective catalytic reduction systems. The OBD system in your 2013 or newer truck tracks all of this, and CARB’s test reads those diagnostics.

You’ll need to get the flagged issue repaired before you can pass a retest. We can point you toward what needs to happen, but the actual repair work has to be done by a qualified mechanic. Once repairs are complete, you schedule another test.

Keep in mind that operating a truck with a failed test puts you out of compliance. If you’re under a 30-day Notice to Submit to Testing deadline, that clock doesn’t stop just because you failed. You need to get repairs done and pass a retest within that window, or you’re facing penalties and registration holds. If you’re in Beverly Hills and dealing with a failure, don’t wait. Get the repairs handled and get retested as quickly as possible.

Motorhomes and RVs need Clean Truck Check testing if they meet the same criteria as commercial trucks: GVWR over 14,000 pounds and a model year 2013 or newer engine. A lot of larger Class A motorhomes fall into this category.

If your RV qualifies, you’re required to register with CARB, pay the annual compliance fee, and submit passing emissions tests twice per year starting in 2025. The same penalties for non-compliance apply, including DMV registration holds and potential fines.

Many RV owners don’t realize they’re subject to these rules until they try to renew their registration and find out there’s a hold. If you’re keeping your motorhome in Beverly Hills or anywhere in California and it meets the weight and model year requirements, get ahead of this. Mobile testing makes it easy since we come to wherever you store your RV, and you don’t have to drive it to a facility.
