If that describes your trucks, you’re required to submit passing emissions compliance tests twice per year starting in 2025. That frequency increases to four times per year in 2027.
You also have to pay an annual compliance fee to CARB, which is $31.18 per vehicle for 2025. Registration, fee payment, and test submission all have to happen through CARB’s system. Miss any of those steps and the DMV puts a hold on your registration.
Here’s what catches people off guard: CARB is actively monitoring compliance using roadside emissions devices and automated license plate readers. If your truck gets flagged, you receive a Notice to Submit to Testing. You have 30 days from that notice to get a passing test submitted. There’s no grace period and no extensions.
