Starting January 2025, California requires semi-annual Clean Truck Check testing for nearly every diesel and alternative fuel truck over 14,000 pounds operating on public roads. Miss it, and you’re looking at registration holds, delayed renewals, and fines that can hit $10,000 per vehicle per day.
We bring CARB certified testing directly to your location in Compton. That means no shuttling trucks across town, no waiting in line at a testing facility, and no downtime eating into your operating schedule. Your driver stays put, we run the test, and results go straight to CARB’s system.
You get compliance without the disruption. Registration stays current, DMV holds don’t happen, and your fleet keeps moving through the I-710 corridor and Long Beach port access routes without interruption.
We serve trucking operations throughout Compton and the surrounding South LA freight corridor. We’re not a general smog shop trying to figure out heavy-duty compliance on the fly. We focus exclusively on CARB Clean Truck Check testing for commercial fleets.
Compton sits at the center of California’s busiest freight zone. You’ve got the 710, the 91, direct port access, and thousands of trucks moving through daily. That also means CARB enforcement is everywhere—roadside sensors, mobile inspection teams, port checkpoints. Getting caught non-compliant here isn’t a maybe, it’s a when.
We built our service around that reality. Mobile testing, certified equipment, same-day availability, and direct upload to CARB’s CTC-VIS system so your compliance is instant and verifiable.
You call or message us with your truck details and location in Compton. We confirm your vehicle qualifies—model year 2013 or newer, gross vehicle weight rating over 14,000 pounds. If it’s an older truck or under that weight threshold, this service won’t apply and we’ll tell you upfront.
We schedule a time that works for you, same day or next day in most cases. Our mobile unit comes to your yard, shop, or wherever the truck is parked. The test itself takes about 15 to 30 minutes depending on whether it’s an OBD scan or a full opacity and visual inspection.
Once the test is complete, results upload directly to CARB through the CTC-VIS system. Your truck’s record updates with DMV automatically. You get documentation on the spot, and you’re done. No follow-up appointments, no waiting for paperwork to process, no wondering if it went through.
If your truck doesn’t pass, we’ll tell you exactly what flagged and what needs attention before retesting. Most issues are straightforward—faulty sensors, loose connections, or maintenance that was already due.

This is CARB certified emissions testing performed by state-credentialed testers using equipment that meets California Air Resources Board standards. We’re not running some generic diagnostic—we’re conducting the exact Clean Truck Check protocol that CARB requires for heavy-duty vehicle compliance in California.
For most 2013 and newer trucks, that means an OBD scan pulling data directly from your truck’s onboard diagnostics. We check for emissions control system faults, verify your diesel particulate filter is functioning, and confirm there are no active trouble codes that would trigger a failure. If your truck is equipped differently or falls into a category requiring opacity testing, we’ll run a smoke test and complete a visual inspection of emissions components.
Compton fleets deal with high-mileage operation, constant stop-and-go through industrial zones, and the kind of wear that comes from running loads between the port and inland distribution centers. That environment can trigger sensor issues or DPF problems even when the truck is mechanically sound. We see it constantly, and we know what to look for.
After testing, your results go into the CTC-VIS database immediately. CARB sees it, DMV sees it, and your compliance status updates in real time. You’ll also receive a printed report showing your test results and certification. If you’re managing multiple trucks, we can coordinate fleet testing and provide consolidated documentation for your records.
If your truck is model year 2013 or newer, weighs over 14,000 pounds gross vehicle weight rating, and operates on California roads, yes—you need Clean Truck Check testing. This applies to diesel and alternative fuel vehicles, including semi trucks, box trucks, dump trucks, and most commercial heavy-duty equipment.
The requirement kicked in January 2025 with semi-annual testing. By 2027, it moves to quarterly. It doesn’t matter if you’re based in Compton or just passing through—if the truck operates in California, it needs to be compliant.
There are a few exceptions. Trucks older than 2013 aren’t part of this program yet. Gasoline-powered vehicles under 14,000 pounds follow different smog check rules. Military vehicles, certain agricultural equipment, and some specialized rigs may be exempt, but those cases are rare. If you’re running a standard freight or commercial truck in the Compton area, assume you need testing and go from there.
If your truck fails, you’ll get a detailed report showing exactly what triggered the failure—usually a fault code, a sensor issue, or something related to your emissions control system like the DPF or EGR valve. You’ll need to address whatever caused the failure and then retest.
Most failures aren’t catastrophic. A check engine light that’s been ignored, a loose connection, or routine maintenance that’s overdue can all cause a truck to fail even if it’s running fine otherwise. We’ll walk you through what the codes mean and what type of repair or service is typically needed.
Once the issue is fixed, we can come back and retest. You’re not compliant until you pass, and if your registration renewal is coming up, a failed test will hold that process until you clear it. CARB doesn’t mess around with extensions or grace periods on this. You either pass and stay on the road, or you’re sidelined until it’s resolved. That’s why catching it early matters, especially if you’re operating in high-enforcement areas like Compton where roadside checks and port inspections are constant.
Testing costs vary depending on what type of test your truck requires. An OBD scan for a 2013 or newer truck typically runs around $94 to $120. If your truck needs a full opacity test with visual inspection of emissions components, you’re looking at closer to $150 to $180.
That’s the cost of the test itself. If you fail and need repairs, that’s separate—and it depends entirely on what’s wrong. A sensor replacement might be a couple hundred dollars. A DPF cleaning or replacement can run into the thousands. But the test just tells you where you stand.
Compare that to the cost of non-compliance. CARB fines start at $300 per violation and can go up to $10,000 per vehicle per day if you’re operating a non-compliant truck. Add in the cost of a registration hold, a truck sitting idle, or getting pulled at a port checkpoint, and the test fee is nothing. For Compton fleets running tight margins on freight contracts, a single day of downtime can cost more than a year of testing. Pay for the test now, or pay a lot more later when enforcement catches up.
Yes. That’s the entire point of our mobile service. We bring the testing equipment to wherever your truck is parked in Compton—your yard, your shop, a job site, or even on the street if that’s where it sits.
You don’t need to prep anything special. Just make sure the truck is accessible and we can get to the OBD port or exhaust depending on what type of test is required. If you’re managing a fleet, we can test multiple trucks in one visit and work around your dispatch schedule.
Mobile testing eliminates the biggest hassle of CARB compliance: losing time. You’re not driving across town to a testing facility, waiting in line, or pulling a truck out of service for half a day. We show up, we test, we upload results, and you’re back to work. For operations in Compton where trucks are moving freight daily and every hour counts, that convenience isn’t a luxury—it’s how you stay profitable while staying compliant.
Starting in 2025, CARB requires Clean Truck Check testing every six months for most heavy-duty trucks. That’s twice a year. In 2027, the requirement increases to quarterly testing—four times a year.
You’ll also need to test if you receive a Notice to Submit to Testing from CARB. That’s a targeted enforcement notice, and you’ve got 30 days to complete the test and submit results. Ignore it, and you’re facing penalties and registration holds.
The testing schedule is tied to your truck’s compliance status in the CTC-VIS system, not your registration renewal date. That means you need to track it separately. A lot of Compton fleet operators we work with set reminders based on their last test date and schedule the next one a week or two before it’s due. That builds in a buffer in case something comes up or the truck fails and needs a retest. Waiting until the last minute is how trucks end up grounded right when you need them on the road.
A standard smog check is what passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks go through for registration renewal. It’s been around for decades and tests things like catalytic converter function and tailpipe emissions on gasoline vehicles.
Clean Truck Check is CARB’s newer program specifically for heavy-duty diesel and alternative fuel trucks over 14,000 pounds. It focuses on onboard diagnostics, diesel particulate filters, and emissions control systems that are unique to commercial trucks. The testing equipment is different, the certification requirements for testers are different, and the reporting goes into a separate system called CTC-VIS.
You can’t take a semi truck to a regular smog shop and expect them to handle Clean Truck Check. Most don’t have the equipment, the training, or the CARB credentials to perform the test. And even if they say they can, the results won’t upload correctly and you won’t get credit for compliance. For Compton fleets running 2013 and newer heavy-duty trucks, Clean Truck Check is the only test that matters—and it has to be done by someone who’s set up to do it right.
