You’ve got 30 days to get compliant after CARB sends that notice. Miss it, and your registration gets suspended. Your truck sits. Your revenue stops.
That’s the reality for every heavy-duty truck owner in California right now. CARB’s Clean Truck Check program isn’t optional anymore. If your truck is model year 2013 or newer and weighs over 14,000 pounds GVWR, you’re in the system.
The good news? Getting tested doesn’t have to kill your schedule. We bring CARB-certified testing directly to your location in Bell. You don’t drive to us. We plug in, pull the data, upload it to the CTC-VIS system, and you’re done. Your compliance record updates in real time with CARB and the DMV. No waiting. No second trips.
This isn’t about passing inspection. It’s about keeping your business moving without the bureaucratic runaround.
We focus exclusively on CARB compliance for trucks that fall under California’s Clean Truck Check requirements. That means 2013 and newer, over 14,000 pounds GVWR. We’re not a general smog shop trying to do everything.
Bell sits right in the heart of LA County’s trucking corridor. We see owner-operators, small fleets, construction companies, and logistics operators every day. Most of them didn’t even know they needed CARB testing until they got the notice.
We’re CARB-credentialed testers. We use state-approved OBD diagnostic equipment. We report directly into the CTC-VIS database. That’s the same system CARB enforcement uses, which means when we test your truck, it counts.
First, we confirm your truck qualifies. Model year 2013 or newer, GVWR over 14,000 pounds. If it doesn’t meet both criteria, this isn’t the test you need.
Once we’re on-site, we connect our CARB-approved diagnostic tool to your truck’s OBD port. The system pulls emissions data directly from your engine control module. We’re not doing a tailpipe test. We’re reading what your truck’s computer already knows.
The data gets uploaded to CTC-VIS in real time. That’s California’s official Clean Truck Check database. Once it’s in there, CARB and the DMV can see your compliance status immediately. You don’t wait for paperwork. You don’t wonder if it went through.
If your truck passes, you’re done. If there’s an issue flagged, we’ll tell you what the system found and what it means. Most of the time, it’s a sensor reading or an emissions system fault that needs attention before you can pass.
The whole process takes about 20 minutes per truck. If you’ve got multiple vehicles, we can test them back-to-back at your yard.

This service applies only to trucks that are model year 2013 or newer and have a GVWR over 14,000 pounds. If your truck is older or lighter, you’re not subject to Clean Truck Check testing.
CARB started mandatory compliance in 2025. Right now, you get tested when CARB sends you a notice. Starting in 2027, OBD-equipped trucks will need quarterly testing. That’s four times a year, every year.
The annual CARB compliance fee is $30 per vehicle. That goes to the state, not to us. Our testing fee is separate and covers the mobile service, certified testing, and real-time CTC-VIS reporting.
Bell’s location puts you in one of the busiest commercial vehicle zones in California. CARB enforcement is active here. Roadside inspections happen. If your truck isn’t compliant and you get pulled over, you’re looking at fines, possible impoundment, and a compliance order that has to be resolved before you can operate again.
Getting tested before there’s a problem is cheaper and faster than dealing with enforcement after the fact.
Your truck needs testing if it meets two criteria: model year 2013 or newer, and GVWR over 14,000 pounds. Both have to be true.
If CARB has your truck in their system, you’ll get a compliance notice in the mail. That notice gives you 30 days to complete testing. If you don’t test within that window, the DMV puts a registration hold on your vehicle.
Even if you haven’t received a notice yet, you can check your compliance status on CARB’s website using your VIN. If your truck is flagged as needing testing, don’t wait for the letter. Get it done.
If your truck fails, the CTC-VIS system will show what triggered the failure. Usually it’s an emissions-related fault code or a sensor reading that’s out of range.
You’ll need to get the issue repaired before you can pass. That means taking your truck to a qualified diesel mechanic who can diagnose and fix whatever the OBD system flagged. Once the repair is done, you’ll need to get retested.
CARB doesn’t give you a grace period after a failure. Your compliance clock is still running. If you’re past your 30-day notice period and you still haven’t passed, the DMV registration hold goes into effect. That’s why it’s better to test early if you suspect there might be an issue.
You can, but most CARB-certified testing stations don’t have the setup for heavy-duty trucks. You’re not pulling a semi into a standard smog shop parking lot.
Mobile testing eliminates that problem. We come to your yard, your job site, or wherever your truck is parked in Bell. You don’t lose drive time. You don’t have to plan around shop hours. You don’t risk getting pulled over on the way to testing if your compliance notice is already expired.
For fleets with multiple trucks, mobile testing is the only practical option. We can test five trucks in the time it would take you to drive one truck across town and back.
About 20 minutes per truck, start to finish. That includes connecting the diagnostic equipment, pulling the OBD data, and uploading the results to CTC-VIS.
If there’s an issue with the connection or the truck’s OBD system isn’t communicating properly, it might take a few extra minutes to troubleshoot. But in most cases, if your truck’s systems are functioning normally, it’s a quick process.
For multiple trucks, we can move through them efficiently. If you’ve got a small fleet parked together, we can usually finish all of them in under two hours. That’s a lot less disruptive than sending drivers out one by one to a testing facility.
Yes. We upload your test results directly into the CTC-VIS system as soon as testing is complete. That’s California’s official database for Clean Truck Check compliance.
Once it’s in CTC-VIS, CARB and the DMV can see your status immediately. There’s no waiting period. There’s no paperwork you have to file. The system updates in real time.
You can verify your compliance status yourself by logging into the CARB website with your VIN. If the test went through correctly, you’ll see your truck listed as compliant. If there’s ever a question about whether your test was recorded, that’s where you check.
Regular smog checks are for passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks under 14,000 pounds GVWR. They use tailpipe emissions testing and visual inspections.
CARB Clean Truck Check is specifically for heavy-duty diesel trucks model year 2013 or newer with GVWR over 14,000 pounds. It uses OBD diagnostics to pull emissions data directly from your truck’s engine computer. There’s no tailpipe test. The system reads sensor data, fault codes, and emissions system performance.
The other big difference is reporting. Clean Truck Check results go into the CTC-VIS database, which is separate from the regular smog check system. If you take your heavy-duty truck to a regular smog shop, they can’t perform the test you need. It has to be done by a CARB-credentialed tester using approved equipment that connects to CTC-VIS.
